Start to finish: 12 hours (inactive cooking time) and 20 minutes (active cooking time)

Servings: 6

Classes are now back in session! Except, this beginning of the semester is drastically different than the ones of the past due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. That means how we caffeinate ourselves for that early morning class or finding a way to stay alert during the school day is going to look different.

Our day to day routines has changed because of it.

Not only do you have to worry about looking decent when you arrive to your in-person classes, you now must make sure you’re wearing a mask, and take the Daily Symptom Check Survey just to attend classes. Or you’re in synchronous classes and trying to decide what is appropriate to wear or just staying in your PJ’s. You’re not going to have any time to stop by Starbucks or Dunkin’ just to handle all of the new responsibilities that you’re taking on.

There’s a hack for that by making coffee, especially cold brew, at home without having to use whole coffee beans and a grinder.

You don’t even have to be a barista!

All you need is quality ground coffee, filtered water, time and you’ll have a flavorful cup of cold brew that will fit into however you’re choosing to navigate college life during these uncertain times.

· 2 large jars

· Measuring cup

· 2 cups of ground coffee

· 3 cups of filtered water

· Cooking spoon

· Coffee filter or cheese cloth

· Strainer

· Sweetener (drinkers’ choice)

· Milk or Milk alternative (drinkers’ choice)

· Ice cubes (drinkers’ choice)

Cold Brew Concentrate Recipe:

· Place 2 cups of ground coffee in designated container

· Fill container with 3 cups of filtered water

· Stir water and coffee mixture to incorporate well

· Place in fridge for 10-12 hours, not more or less

*cooking note: Cheese cloth will strain mixture faster than a filter.

· After 10-12 hours take out of fridge, and set up coffee filtration system of coffee filter or cheese cloth in a strainer

· Place on top of measuring cup, and ever so slowly pour the concentrate into measuring cup

· Continue this step until all the concentrate is poured out

Cold Brew Drink Recipe:

*Cooking note: If using honey or granulated sugar as sweetener, use a little hot water to create a syrup.

· Place sweetener of choice at the bottom of empty cup

· Pour ½ of a cup of concentrate

· Add 1/3 of a cup of filtered water (to dilute acidity and balance flavor)

· Add desired amount of ice cubes

· Top of with milk or milk alternative or simply drink black if that is your preference!
