In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, USFSP Housing will host its second door decorating contest for residents in the University Student Center (USC).
Students can register to decorate their room doors following the Valentine’s Day theme in a chance to win Build-A-Bear teddy bears and assorted chocolates.
Resident Assistant Elizabeth Casale first pitched the idea of holding a Halloween door decorating contest to Housing in October 2019.
Casale was able to get funding for the program from the Residence Hall Association.
Over 30 students participated in the Halloween contest, which she deemed a success.
Casale hopes for even more student participation for the upcoming door decorating contest.
“We would like to see more student involvement,” she said. “We want residents to feel at home and more connected to the community.”
Residents can register to participate in the contest by scanning the QR code on posters found throughout the USC.
Registration is open now and will close at 5 p.m. on Feb. 12. Judging by the Housing professional staff will occur later that night from 7 to 8 p.m.
The doors will be judged using a rubric, which split into four categories: creativity, effort, personal opinion and holiday theme. As well, the decorations must comply with Housing policy.
Currently, the contest is only being held in the USC.
“We only did it in the USC last time because it was the first time, and we wanted to see how much involvement we could get,” stated Casale.
If enough residents in Residence Hall One voice an interest in the contest then one can be held.
