Put down 'The Office.' We've got something better for you.

Let’s face it: being stuck at home under quarantine orders can get a bit boring. However, this means you finally have time to start all those documentaries you’ve been meaning to watch!

To get you started, here are some of our Top Five favorites:

1. Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness.

Okay, we would be lying to ourselves if we said this show didn’t deserve its spot at #1 on our Netflix documentary list.

It has taken over Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, even my mom’s Facebook page. However, this docu-series has earned it’s right as the craziest and most talked-about show of 2020.

Throughout this seven-episode series, viewers are taken on a wild ride through the life of Joe Exotic, the Tiger King. Not only does it enlighten the subject of cruel and unusual treatment of exotic cats in Western culture, but it also shows the power of tiger sex cults and its leaders worldwide.

2. The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez

Alright, this one is a toughy to get through. It is heart-wrenching, angering, sorrowful, and shines a very intense light on the subject of child abuse in America.

This six-part series documents the mournful and tragic life of Gabriel Fernandez, an eight-year-old boy who ultimately died at the hands of his parents.

It also focuses on those that failed to save his life, including his primary teacher and the social workers assigned to his case. Make sure to have a box of tissues on standby.

3. Miss Americana

Taylor Swift has accomplished a lot in the past ten years: five successful albums, an astounding political standing, winning a never-ending feud with Kanye and Kim, and a heartfelt Netflix documentary.

Though her music is discussed, this program goes above and beyond to show viewers that Swift is more than just a musician. It tells us her side of the story, one about her feminist awakening and the struggles she’s had to overcome to get there.

It also has a lot of cute cats, which is always a plus.

4. Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes

If you haven’t watched this one yet, what are you waiting for?

There have been many series made about the cases surrounding Ted Bundy, a notorious serial killer and necrophiliac, but this documentary is by far the best.

What makes this show unique is that viewers, for the first time, are invited to listen to Bundy tell the story himself.

The catch?

He speaks of himself in the third-person, as if to avoid getting prosecuted again. If you’re a true crime fan, then this show is the one for you.

Bonus content: If you want to know more about the Ted Bundy files, watch Netflix’s ‘Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile’ starring Zac Efron and Lily Collins, and Prime Video’s ‘Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer.’ This documentary tells the Bundy story through a female perspective, including interviews with survivors and his girlfriend, Elizabeth Kendall.

5. Cheer

Remember the classic movie Bring It On? Well, cheerleading just got a bit more intense in Corsicana, Texas.

This six-part series follows the Navarro College cheer squad as they compete against numerous teams to obtain a highly-sought-after national title.

Throughout this series, viewers are invited to watch the team prepare for their end of year routine for the national competition in Daytona Florida.

It’s a dog-eat-dog world, and cheerleading is no exception.
